The study, which was based on data taken from the portal, analysed job offers in the period from May, June and July, both from employers and candidates, the company said in a statement.
According to the study, June saw the greatest increase in job offers from employers, compared to May.
“After Restaurants, Hotels and Tourism (+318%), the greatest job offers during this period were in Agriculture and Gardening and in IT and Telecommunications positions, with increases of +120% and +14%, respectively, in June compared to the previous month”, it reads.
The three areas with the highest job offers in the three months analysed were, however, Catering, Hotel and Tourism, Commercial and Domestic positions and Cleaning.
Security and Surveillance, Sports and Fitness, as well as Accounting, Taxation and Finance positions were the areas with the lowest offer.
“In a country like Portugal, it is very common for the hotel, restaurant and tourism sector to have high demand during the summer, due to the Portuguese holiday period and the increasing presence of tourists during these months. This is good news for those looking for seasonal employment, such as students who take advantage of this break in their studies to gain experience in the job market and at the same time save some money”, said the Brand Manager of OLX Portugal, Andreia Pușcoci.
Nevertheless, and compared to 2023, “there is a decrease in the job offer in the Restaurant, Hotel and Tourism sector in May, June and July”, of -40%, -31% and -38%, respectively. “This decrease is also visible in the job search by candidates in June (-7%) and July (-23%). On the other hand, in May of this year, the search for opportunities in this same area shows a significant increase of +318%, compared to the same period in 2023”.
More jobs in summer in the hospitality sector ,,,,who'd a thunk it , very worthwhile research project, nothing like proving the blindingly obvious.
