Contacted by Lusa, a spokesperson for Ursula von der Leyen's executive stated that the Commission "is prepared to help Portugal with all the resources it needs" to put out the fires in the Aveiro district at a time when mainland Portugal is under a state of alert due to the risk of fires.


However, Brussels "has not yet received a request from Portugal" to provide additional resources, the same source added.

A source from the Ministry of Internal Affairs contacted by Lusa confirmed only that meetings are taking place this morning with the national civil protection commands.
