According to data from the Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual (ICA), compiled up to 22 September, the film “Inside Out 2” was seen by 1,289,053 spectators, totalling 7.7 million euros in gross box office revenue since its premiere in July in Portuguese cinemas.

With these figures, Kelsey Mann's animated feature film became the film with the highest audience and revenue in Portugal since 2004, the year in which the ICA began to systematise and collect statistical data on cinema exhibitions.

In Portugal, “Inside Out 2” thus surpasses the films “The Lion King” (2019), by Jon Favreau, which was the most watched (with 1,281,657 spectators), and “Avatar” (2009), by James Cameron, which was most profitable (with 7.2 million euros).

The performance of “Inside Out 2” in Portugal is in line with the film’s global performance, currently standing at 1.6 billion dollars (around 1.4 billion euros), in all the territories where it was released, which is a record for an animated film.

“Inside Out 2” is a sequel to a 2015 Pixar animated film, by Pete Docter and Ronnie del Carmen, in which the main characters are emotions – Joy, Sadness, or Anger – inside the head of a girl, Riley.

The second film returns to the mind of Riley, now a teenager, with new characters such as Anxiety and Shame.

The voice cast of the original version includes, among others, Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira and Ayo Edebiri.
