In a statement to SIC Notícias, meteorologist Cristina Simões, from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), explained that the most intense rain should end late this afternoon, with a "change to showers", which will continue until Friday, when they will begin to "decrease in frequency and intensity", with "partly cloudy or clear skies" expected during the afternoon.

The weekend will be partly cloudy and the "heat will return", with "hot weather and no precipitation" expected on Saturday and Sunday.

"From Saturday onwards, temperatures will rise. I would say that Sunday will be a day of partly cloudy skies, with temperatures returning to around 30 degrees in the Alentejo region", said the meteorologist.

However, the good weather will not continue, as a frontal surface is expected to pass through at the beginning of next week, bringing back rain, although "nothing as serious" as this week.
