“The problem is that there is a 20-year concession”, he pointed out, in an interview with Público and Rádio Renascença, stressing that “it is a [type of] tourism that does nothing for the city, nor is it in the city’s interest”.
The mayor said that, in order to reduce the concentration of tourists in downtown Lisbon, he “doubled the tourist tax” and is building cultural facilities “that are not all in the same area”.
“We need to divide tourism between the various areas of the city,” he stressed, noting that tourism accounts for 20% of the city’s economy and 25% of its employment. Moedas rejects the idea that there is too much tourism.
As for the controversial order for the Municipal Police to start making arrests, Carlos Moedas rejects that it is a concession to Chega: “This has nothing to do with the far right or the far left. This has to do with the city’s safety, with people’s concerns.” And, regarding criticism of the dirtiness of Lisbon’s streets, the mayor revealed that he is hiring 200 more workers to collect rubbish, complaining about a “dichotomy with the parishes” in which responsibility is not attributed to just one institution.
Moedas does not lift the veil on whether he will run again or not, but challenges the PS to “accept defeat” and let Montenegro govern because the Portuguese do not want to go to polling stations again.
I think this is a very harsh stand on the cruise undustry. I am sure Funchal doesn't matter receiving all those cruises instead.

It's like filling the city with all inclusive hotels , lots of bodies but not much spending , other than coffee and museum entry .

One of the few things Moedas has said that makes sense. Apart from that, he is absolutely the worst mayor for a long time, possibly even worse than Antonio Costa, another who (mid)used the position for self-aggrandisement and to further his political career while blaming others for all his failures.

It must do the taxi drivers some good
One charged me 25euros to take me 300 metres
Why didn’t he simply tell me I was so close
They are an embarrassment to Lisbon and should be policed better
