Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and Luís Montenegro will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister and Minister of Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida and the Minister of Internal Affairs, Margarida Blasco.
The delegation will fly over the burnt areas by helicopter and stop in Baião (Porto district), Vila Pouca de Aguiar (Vila Real district) and Sever do Vouga (Aveiro district).
This will be the third time that the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister have taken a joint initiative regarding the fires.
On the evening of September 16, they followed the progress of the firefighting effort together at the headquarters of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC).
The Government approved legislation implementing measures to support families, businesses and farmers, restore homes, restore forests, repair infrastructure and equipment and replace damaged equipment.
Among other measures, the Government announced that it will finance 100% of the reconstruction and rehabilitation of first homes up to a limit of 150 thousand euros, a special subsidy to compensate for agricultural losses, up to the value of 6,000 euros, and the creation of a support line for the treasury and reconstruction of factories.
An exceptional regime for contracting public works contracts was also approved.
Nine people died and more than 170 were injured as a result of the fires. ANEPC officially counted five deaths in the fires.
Between September 15 and 20, forest fires consumed around 135,000 hectares, bringing the total area burned in Portugal this year to almost 147,000 hectares, the third largest in the last decade, according to the European Copernicus system.
