The “Discovering Albufeira's Old Town” programme has been resumed by the municipality and will run until 12 June next year.

The tours, which take place every Thursday (except on public holidays), in Portuguese and English, aim to promote the municipality's historical and cultural heritage and to revitalise the city's urban centre outside the high season. Participation is free, but prior registration is required, up to two days before the intended visit date. They last approximately two hours and are led under the guidance of a tourism specialist from the municipality.

The Mayor stresses that “Albufeira is more than just sun and sand; we have much more to offer in terms of history, culture, traditions and gastronomy, as well as a mild temperature that allows us to have tourism all year round”. José Carlos Rolo stresses that “it is essential to diversify the offer, especially during the low tourist season, so in addition to visits to the old city centre, the local authority focuses on walking trails in the urban area and in the interior of the municipality, visits to Paderne Castle, water sports, golf, major national and international sporting events, gastronomic and wine tourism events and cultural programmes that showcase the roots and identity of our people. In this way, we can attract more tourists to the municipality and combat seasonality”, he concludes.
