On 25 October at 4 pm, an exhibition by the artist Ernst Föll opened at the Municipal Library of Olhão (Biblioteca Municipal de Olhão José Mariano Gago) under the poetic title ‘O Centauro de Olhão’.
The master student and collaborator of Joseph Beuys lived in Olhão from 2016 to 2023 together with the artist and dance therapist Nada Mandelbaum. Föll succumbed to the consequences of cancer in his adopted home at the age of 74. His years in Portugal were among his most productive. Around 200 works were created during this time.
The exhibition shows selected works from his extensive oeuvre, created primarily in Portugal, including excerpts from his last major cycle ‘Splinter Pieces’. The two sculptures ‘Cenotaph for Fernando Pessoa’ 2018 and ‘The Angel's Ladder’ for Teixeira de Pascoaes 2020 are also on display as a tribute to these important Portuguese artists. The exhibition is open until the anniversary of the artist's death on 6 December.
