The numbers are in the report "Open Doors 2024 - Report on International Educational Exchange", released today the United States Department of State and which includes information on American students studying abroad.
According to the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD), which issued a statement on the subject, the number of American students at Portuguese universities and polytechnic institutes in the 2022/23 academic year "was the highest ever".
In the statement, FLAD expresses that the data "confirms that Portugal is increasingly an option for American university students, due to the unique conditions that the country offers and the growing recognition of the quality of Portuguese higher education".
According to FLAD, around 10% of American students were studying in Portugal through the exchange program developed by the foundation since 2014, the "SiPN - Study in Portugal Network".
