"The municipality and the Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU) formalised the deed of transfer regarding the municipal plot of land on Rua Câmara Pestana, next to Vale das Flores, where a building with 19 homes will be built “intended for families that do not fit into the priorities of social housing, but who are unable to access the private rental market”, stated the Coimbra City Council, in a press release sent to the Lusa news agency.
The operation will involve an investment of 3.8 million euros, supported by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP) and carried out in light of the collaboration agreement between the local authority, IHRU and the Intermunicipal Community of the Coimbra Region.
“It is with great satisfaction and with the continued commitment to the geographical dispersion of this type of equipment, that the Coimbra City Council informs that the municipality of Coimbra will have 19 more homes available, for affordable rent”, they highlighted.
The new residential building will have apartments of different types (nine one-bedroom apartments, four two-bedroom apartments, three three-bedroom apartments and three four-bedroom apartments) and the lower floors will be used “for covered parking spaces”, they explained.
The project was designed by municipal services and “will be marked by vertical elements and the use of transparencies on the ground floors”, said Coimbra City Council.
Quoted in the press release, Mayor, José Manuel Silva, highlighted the importance of Coimbra increasing “its housing stock, in this case, aimed at people who are not always provided with help”.
“In this sense, it is essential that the State reinforces the means for local authorities to be able to increase the availability of affordable housing, namely through the review of the Local Finance Law”, highlighted José Manuel Silva.
In addition to this project, another was announced in the past for the construction of six houses in Vale de Figueiras.
