The Municipality of Lagoa received, at the 9th National Blue Flag Seminar, held in Mértola on the 7 and 8 of November, the prestigious title of “Bluest Municipality in the Algarve”.
This distinction recognises the local authority's ongoing work in promoting sustainable practices and raising environmental awareness in the community.
In addition to this award, Praia Grande of Ferragudo was awarded the International Certificate for the 10 years of the ‘Blue Flag Programme’, a tribute to the beach's uninterrupted commitment to high standards of environmental quality, safety, services and environmental education. This certificate recognises the consistency of the work of the city hall and local entities, which, for a decade, guaranteed strict compliance with the ‘Blue Flag Programme’ criteria.
During the seminar, the good work carried out in Lagoa within the scope of environmental education activities was highlighted, including exploratory routes, workshops and environmental shows, which involve both the local population and visitors. Through awareness campaigns and initiatives such as beach cleaning, Lagoa has been promoting practices that respect the environment and encourage greater responsibility on the part of everyone.
This double recognition - the “Bluest Municipality” award and the International Certificate of 10 years of Praia Grande - reinforces Lagoa's position as an example to be followed in environmental management and the development of sustainable policies. These awards are an incentive to continue working towards an increasingly blue and conscious Algarve, where sustainability and environmental preservation are unquestionable priorities.
“It is with immense pride that we see our municipality being recognised as the ‘Bluest Municipality in the Algarve’. This award reflects the City Council's ongoing work and commitment to promoting sustainability and respect for our natural heritage. The distinction of Praia Grande of Ferragudo, with the 10-year Blue Flag International Certificate, is a reflection of the collective effort to guarantee clean, safe and ecologically responsible beaches. This recognition strengthens our commitment to making Lagoa an example of good environmental practices for everyone”, shared Luís Encarnação, Mayor of Lagoa.
