The regional secretary of Economy, Tourism and Culture, Eduardo Jesus, indicated that the amount includes entertainment and logistics, support for entities involved, fireworks on New Year's Eve (€ 1.3 million), as well as this year's Christmas illuminations and Carnival 2025, as this is a joint public competition.

Eduardo Jesus highlighted that 173 presentations in total are planned for this period, including 51 shows, 24 choir shows, 49 presentations by folk groups and marching bands, and five DJ presentations, among other initiatives.

The traditional Christmas Market, located at Placa Central on Avenida Arriaga, will also be open between Sunday and January 7th, and between Sunday and Thursday, it opens at 10:00 and closes at 00:00 and at the end of the week closes at 01:00.

On the 23rd, 30th and 31st of December, it will exceptionally close at 04:00, on the 24th of December it will only open until 18:00 and on the 25th of December and 1st of January it will be closed.

Eduardo Jesus also highlighted that there will be “quite intense” entertainment in the last three days of the year, concentrated mainly in Praça do Povo, in the center of Funchal, the main city in the Madeiran archipelago.

On December 31st, the fireworks show, at midnight, will have Madeira tiles as its theme and will be preceded by 20 minutes of animations that combine pyrotechnics and multimedia effects.

The fireworks show will last eight minutes, “from 59 stations, the same as the previous year, with pyrotechnic effects that also bring some new features”.

Hotel occupancy forecast for the 24th, 25th and 26th of December is 75% and 88% on New Year's Eve, said the governor.

The regional secretary warned that this is a survey of the hotel sector carried out “a month away”, envisioning that “it is very likely that it could still evolve favourably”.

Madeira's Christmas and New Year's Eve party program, one of the biggest tourist events on the island, involves 2,700 people, he also highlighted.

The Christmas lights also come on on Sunday and will light the main avenues and arteries in the centre and surrounding areas of Funchal, until the early hours of January 8th.
