The festivities kick off on November 25 with “The Magic of the Christmas Market” at Mercado dos Lavradores, featuring a music and dance performance at 6pm.

A highlight of the programme is the Christmas Village at Praça do Município, opening on November 29. The novelties this year are a French carousel and the traditional train, now with an accessible carriage for people with reduced mobility.

Mayor Cristina Pedra empasised the family-friendly nature of the Christmas Village, offering activities like storytelling, music, dance, popcorn, and cotton candy for all generations.

Other attractions include an ice rink at Almirante Reis, running from November 30 through December. The first three Sundays of December – 1, 8 and 15 – will feature “Christmas at the Square” at Mercado dos Lavradores, showcasing local artisans’ crafts.

The programme also includes the 9th edition of “Mesas de Natal Bordal” at Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias from December 12, alongside a children’s play, “Nicolau’s Mission Impossible”.

The much-anticipated “Night of the Market” on December 23 will draw crowds to the Mercado dos Lavradores and surrounding streets for a night of tradition and celebration.

On December 31, Parque da Santa Catarina will host concerts and performances by DJ Stil to welcome the New Year after midnight.

The festivities wrap up with an ecological nativity display at the city hall from January 4 to 6 and “Songs of Kings” on January 5 and 6 at Praça do Município and Mercado da Penteada.
