The Portuguese company LusoSpace told Jornal Económico that one of the two new Portuguese satellites - PoSAT-2 - will head to space on January 16, 2025, aboard one of Elon Musk's SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets. The launch will take place at the Vandenberg Space Base in California, USA.
It is known that this satellite will aim to create a 'constellation' of satellites focused on maritime communication and that the executive director of LusoSpace, Ivo Yves Vieira, claims to have the objective of creating “the Waze of the oceans”.
“These are satellites that allow us to receive the position of ships and distribute them throughout the community, in order to avoid collisions and create services around this”, says the executive.
As mentioned to Lusa in July, LusoSpace aims to launch up to 12 of these satellites. In the case of PoSAT-2, the launch was scheduled for October this year.
