In a note published on the Presidency's website on International Day against Corruption, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa defended "a greater national effort" by citizens, companies, media and institutions in defense of "transparency and integrity".
"It is important, for this fight to be increasingly effective, a surge of citizenship, a reaffirmation of the urgency of a more effective and effective fight against corruption," he said.
The President of the Republic considered it "imperative to progress institutionally, legally and operationally, providing the respective institutions with the necessary means for rapid and efficient action", capable of generating "a climate of trust and a correct perception regarding the effectiveness and fairness of their action".
The head of state also highlighted as "very relevant" the work carried out in "deepening literacy and defending ethics against corruption, whether with the participation of schools and universities, mobilizing young people, or with research centers and organizations not governments in contributing to a critical and enlightened judgment in defense of Democracy".
Perhaps he should start looking at the politicians for a corruption cleanup and reducing the heavy tax burden on ordinary citizens. I could go so far as to say reducing the levels of bureaucracy would also reduce the loopholes used by the corrupt!
