Albufeira City Council has recently reinforced its network of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), installing new equipment in strategic locations, including Praia da Galé, Parque do Ribeiro, Branqueira, Estrada das Fontainhas, Praia dos Olhos de Água, Estrada das Açoteias, Rossio, Almeijoafras (Paderne), Estrada de Albufeira, Estrada de Vilamoura, Centro Educativo do Cerro do Ouro and Espaço Multiusos de Albufeira.

With this continuous investment, Albufeira has become the municipality with the highest number of community DEAs nationwide.

At the beginning of 2025, 62 devices were already integrated into the Community PDAE Program, placing the municipality in the lead in terms of equipment installed on public roads.

The annual investment is around 100 thousand euros, the largest in the country in this area, according to Postal. Currently, Albufeira has around 14 facilities for every 10 thousand inhabitants, a number much higher than the national average, which is 4 facilities for every 10 thousand people.

Mayor José Carlos Rolo highlights that “with this DAE Program, Albufeira effectively invests in training the population and community assistance, aiming to protect human life”.

The mayor adds that “the Municipality has achieved a level of excellence at a national level, as the availability of this equipment to the population establishes a commitment to a more resilient community”.

In addition to installing the equipment, the city government has invested in training the population, offering Basic Life Support (BLS) courses with Automatic External Defibrillators. To date, more than 1,400 people have joined the Program as neighbourhood first responders, representing approximately 3% of the resident population.
