The Albufeira Municipal Swimming Pools closed on the 5th of July, following the results of the most recent bacteriological laboratory reports on Sanitary Hot Water (AQS), which detected the presence of legionella bacteria, announced the Albufeira City Council.
According to José António Rolo, mayor of Albufeira, the municipality “is aware of its responsibilities and, in safeguarding Public Health and water quality, as well as the services provided to Municipalities, has taken all appropriate measures for the rapid resolution of the problem".
This is not the first time that Albufeira's swimming pools have temporarily closed due to the presence of this bacteria in the water this year, according to a report by Sul Infromação.
This is an utter disgrace, the pool has been closed for the majority of this year and The Camara have charged the people who caused the problem to resolve it, needless to say they have failed for months now. The Camara (Cristino Cabrita is the VP responsible) must immediately engage external specialists, otherwise the pool will never return to full availability.
