The DGS bulletin also reveals that 6,869 people are hospitalised, 175 more than on Sunday, of which 865 are in intensive care units, that is, seven more, values ??that represent a new maximum since the beginning of the pandemic.

Since March 2020, Portugal has registered a total of 12,757 deaths associated with covid-19 and 726,321 cases of infection by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, with 179,180 cases now active, 2,443 fewer than on Sunday.

The DGS epidemiological bulletin released today also records that an additional 7,973 people were reported to have recovered, raising the number of recovered to 534,384 since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal in March 2020.

Health authorities have 220,353 contacts under surveillance, 3,638 less than the previous day.

Regarding the 275 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, 149 occurred in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 51 in the Centro region, 45 in the North region, 21 in the Alentejo and nine in the Algarve region.

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 3,370 new infections were reported, with 265,407 cases and 4,984 deaths so far.

The North region recorded 1,180 new SARS-CoV-2 infections in the last 24 hours and since the beginning of the pandemic it has already registered 307,412 cases of infection and 4,546 deaths.

In the Centre region, 559 more cases were recorded, with 103,094 infections and 2,252 deaths.

In the Alentejo, 409 more cases were reported, totalling 25,322 infections and 688 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.

The Algarve region has today notified 205 new cases, adding 17,443 infections and 219 deaths.

Madeira registered 56 new cases. This autonomous region accounts for 4,111 infections and 43 deaths due to covid-19.

In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, 26 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, totalling 3,532 infections and 25 deaths.

Confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years of age.

Of the total fatalities, 6,645 were men and 6,112 women.

The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total of 12,757 deaths, 8,593 were people over 80 years old, 2,609 aged between 70 and 79 years old and 1,077 were between 60 and 69 years old.
