Fernando Santos will make the announcement in the Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras, at 12:30 pm, and will reveal the squad who will play in Dublin, Ireland on 11 November 11, at 19:45, and at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon against the Serbian team on 14 November, also at 19:45.
Portugal is currently second in their group with 16 points, while Serbia heads the group with 17 points, although Portugal has a game in hand. SO far Portugal has won five of their qualifying games and drawn one, making them one of the favourites to proceed with direct qualification to the World Cup in Qatar.
If Portugal win in Dublin, they will take the lead in the group and will only need to score against Serbia to win the group and seal their sixth consecutive World Cup appearance. Losing in Dublin, will mean they will have to beat the Serbs.
If they finish in second place, Portugal will have to compete in the play-offs (semi-finals and final), with the remaining nine runners-up and two teams qualified via the League of Nations, in March 2022.
After the Fernando Santos conference, also the under-21 football coach, Rui Jorge, will announce, at the same venue, the squad for the games against Cyprus, away on 12 November, and in Faro on 16 November.
