INE data show that, in January, the national hotel industry registered a 39.9% decrease in guests and 38.8% in overnight stays compared to January 2020, even before the arrival of the pandemic, however in comparison with January last year, when the country was once more in lockdown, there were increases of 183.7% and 185.9%, respectively.
With regard to income, which reached 106.4 million euros, including 76.0 million euros for accommodation, the situation is also identical, since this indicator tripled compared to January of last year, but , compared to the same period in 2020, showed a decrease of 39.1% in total income, while income from accommodation decreased by 38.8%.
INE data also show that, with regard to overnight stays, the domestic market contributed with 857.7 thousand overnight stays and increased by 104.5%, while the external markets, which accounted for 57.0% of total overnight stays, were responsible for 1.1 million overnight stays (+308.7%).
