The Lisbon team, under the command of Nélson Veríssimo, aspire to make their debut in the semi-finals in the current format of the main European club competition, in what is their fifth time in the quarters since 1992/93.
Benfica, who have won the trophy twice (1960/61 and 1961/62), have never made it past the quarter-finals since the format of the competition changed, face Liverpool who already have six trophies under their belt, the last in 2018/19.
Benfica comes to this match in third place in the I Liga and after the 3-2 defeat against Sporting de Braga, while Liverpool, second in the Premier League, added a 10th consecutive victory in the competition in their game against Watford, by 2-0, and are one point behind leaders Manchester City.
The match between Benfica and Liverpool is scheduled for 20:00, at Estádio da Luz, and will be refereed by the Spaniard Jesús Gil Manzano. The two teams will face each other again on the 13th, at Anfield Road, in the second leg.
