The official was speaking at the closing ceremony of the initial training course for the prison guard career of 2021 (second edition because due to Covid-19 the course was divided), which took place at the Lisbon Prison and was chaired by the Minister of Justice, Catarina Sarmento e Castro.

Rómulo Mateus said that since 2018, 548 new prison guards have entered the service, a necessary effort and that, he said, must be continuous, due to the high age of those in the profession.
