Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was speaking at the Palácio de Belém, in Lisbon, before the Grand Dukes Henrique and Maria Teresa of Luxembourg.
The President of the Republic thanked "the way in which the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg was able to welcome, understand and integrate the Portuguese community" and, regarding bilateral relations, he noted that "there is more life beyond the pandemic and there is more life beyond the war" in Ukraine.
"We live at war. This visit is a sign of peace, of friendship, it is a sign that life goes on, it is a sign of hope, there is hope beyond the war, and at the same time a sign that we are in agreement.
"We are in agreement, totally in agreement on the European Union, totally in agreement regarding relations with our transatlantic friends and allies, totally in agreement in the various international institutions, the United Nations and other political, economic, social, financial organisations and have the same points of view in relation to the difficult moment that Europe is going through", he added.
