Two weeks ago, the Lisbon City Council announced the entry into operation of the 21 radars recently replaced by new equipment from this Wednesday, June 1st, noting that the other 20 equipment in new locations will be turned on from this same date, but "gradually".
The municipality, under the presidency of Carlos Moedas (PSD), said that the objective of the new radars is to “increase road safety and reduce accidents in the city of Lisbon”.
The implementation of the new radars as a road safety measure was decided by the former municipal executive, under the presidency of Fernando Medina (PS), representing a total investment of 2.142 million euros.
According to the municipality, the new devices “are modern equipment with the most up-to-date technology, which allow the simultaneous control of speed on several lanes and in both directions”, while the old radars only allow speed control in a single lane.
