According to the IPMA, the first earthquake, of magnitude 5.0 on the Richter scale, was recorded at stations of the National Seismic Network at 20:59 (21:59 Lisbon time) and had an epicentre about 490 kilometres north-northeast of Corvo, in the western group of the Azores.

The second earthquake, of magnitude 5.1, was recorded at 21:23 (22:23 Lisbon time) and had an epicentre about 480 kilometres north-northeast of the island of Corvo.
