According to a source from the District Relief Operations
Command (CDOS) of Faro, the reactivation took place in the early afternoon and
“is now being fought by the means that were still on site under surveillance”.
“The reactivation took place in Quinta do Lago, in the
municipality of Loulé, but these are normal situations and the fire is being
fought to try to solve it as soon as possible”, said the source from CDOS from
Faro.
The same source pointed to the wind as a factor that may
have contributed to the reactivation, along with the high temperatures that are
being felt in Portugal in recent days.
241 operatives are involved in surveillance and combat
operations, with the support of 85 vehicles and four aircraft, according to
data available on the Civil Protection website at 14:50.
The fire initially broke out at 11:30 pm on Tuesday, near
the Gambelas hub of the University of Algarve (parish of Montenegro) and the
venue where the Faro International Motorcycle Gathering is taking place until
Sunday.
During the dawn of Wednesday, the flames spread to the
municipality of Loulé.
Now the fire is active again, with firefighters trying to
prevent it from becoming larger, added the source from CDOS in Faro.
