Thousands of students are due to start school next month, however
parents will be faced with increasing costs when heading to the shops top buy
school materials this year.
According to a report by Diário de Notícias, a basket of
basic school supplies is €15 more expensive, when compared to the month of
August 2021. This value represents an increase of 16.54% compared to the same
period last year, KuantoKusta revealed to DN/Dinheiro Vivo. According to the
analysis, in August of last year, a basket for a second cycle student,
containing pencils and ballpoint pens, notebooks, backpack, pencil case and
scientific calculator, cost 92.12 euros. In August of this year, the same
basket costs 107.36 euros, that is, 15.24 euros more than last year.
KuantoKusta also analysed the prices of the most sought
after items within each category and found that the biggest increases were seen
in pencil cases (+42.86%), A4 notebooks (+26.54%) and backpacks (+ 10.81%). Pencils
and ballpoint pens selected by the marketplace were the items that did not
undergo any changes.
