According to Jornal de Notícias, “in the case of the age of
new pensioners, the average age increased by about two years, between 2011 and
2021, from 63.19 to 65.51 years”.
This means that, last year the average retirement age was 66
years and six months (one year above the effective age), and this year it
increased to 66 years and seven months.
However, the publication writes, due to the reduction in
average life expectancy recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic period, the
average retirement age will fall to 66 years and four months.
