According to DN, during the whole of 2019, the Judiciary
Police (PJ) recorded a total of seven homicide crimes - one consummated and six
attempted - committed by youth gangs in the Lisbon district. In the first half
of this year alone, that number rose to 16 (between 15 attempted and one
completed), revealing an exponential rise of 130% in just half the year.
The confirmation of the growing trend of violence between
youth gangs is one of the focuses of concern in the district, where the total
number of homicides is also climbing, when compared to the pre-covid period. In
2019, there were 106 homicide crimes - 81 consummated and 25 attempted. This
year, from January to the end of June, the PJ has already registered 75, which
is equivalent to 70% of the total homicides committed in 2019.

stupid policies surrounding youth crime and drugs have led the world to this point, not just Portugal. Too much focus is on the perpetrators and the victims are often forgotten. The government needs to man up and tackle this head on. A commission will do nothing but waffle on for ages.

Harsh punishment is the answer. Learn from what doesn’t work in the leading violent country, America. Squash the situation now.

Donald Trump in his presidential announcement to run in 2024 again said that drug dealers convicted will be murdered! That's a bit too extreme for me but it does send a strong message and may change some minds IF Trump even gets elected before he goes to jail. The only way to deconstruct gang violence that will eventually affect regular people is to advertise on billboards "in the hood" strong penalties like 5 years 1st offense, second offense life imprisonment and watch how fast the gangs will disband. DO offer some alternative positive programs from our tax $ entwined with educational taxes and get former gang members to hold meetings and try to indoctrinate the wayward with nothing to do and NO hope to turn it around as the other is a dead end road; maybe just dead!
