According to the National Maritime Authority announced
(AMN), the high-speed vessel was adrift, without crew, about five nautical
miles, the equivalent of approximately nine kilometers, south of the island of
Armona, with 180 bales of hashish, in a total of 6.3 tons of the drug.
“Following an alert received at 10:45 am (1 November), by a
recreational fisherman, reporting the presence of a vessel adrift and loaded
with several bales, elements of the local Command of the Maritime Police of
Olhão were immediately activated, as well as the Portuguese Navy ship Hydra”,
reads the note.
According to AMN, upon arrival at the site, “it was found
that the high-speed vessel was loaded with bales of narcotics, with no crew on
board, and was later towed by the ship Hydra to the commercial pier in Faro”.
