Decree-law no. 294/97 determines that the variation to be
applied each year is based on the year-on-year inflation rate, without housing,
on the continent in the last month for which data are available before 15
November.
Now, concessionaires have until next Tuesday, November 15th,
to communicate to the Government their price proposals for 2023. The State will
then have a period of 30 days to comment.
After the presentation of the concessionaires' proposal, the
Government will be able to intervene in this matter and limit the increases.
Motorway managers will be able to negotiate, but must demand compensation, such
as the extension of concession contracts, according to Jornal de Negócios.
The executive chairman of Brisa, António Pires de Lima, also
warned of the situation at the end of July. “Tolls are directly related to
inflation, it is the inflation indicator in October that will determine the
value of tolls, therefore, they should increase and with some significance in
the next year, unless the State shows openness to find mechanisms that
compensate Brisa of this increase and can dilute it over time, or include it in
the concession renegotiation work group”, said the leader of the largest
highway concessionaire in the country.
After four consecutive years of increases — 0.62% in 2016;
0.84% in 2017; 1.42% in 2018; and 0.98% in 2019 –, the prices of tolls on
motorways were not changed in 2020 and 2021.
Isn't this Tolls statement crazy.
First the government's distancing its self from the tolls.
But anyone who has been fined for missing a toll payment, pays at the tax office. Tolls are tax.
Smoke and mirrors here all governments the world over love their taxes.
Secondly, we are told this hyper cost of living rise 10 to 18% is a direct result of the war in Ukraine.
That implys that when the war ends the cost of living will go back down to the EU set target of a 3% rise in the cost of living pa.
It won't of course.
Edp prices have risen, Auga charges for water based on the intake, which it then uses to charge you output for your amount of dirty water, and then it adds an environmental charge, so you end up paying for the same water 3 times over.
Leaving aside the fact that the water quality is currently abysmal, if you water your garden, or fill your pool, you are still paying for the disposal of that same water, as if it had gone down the sink.
News reported here that supermarket workers will receive a pay rise is very welcome, but will it keep pace with the cost of living?
No, I dont think so.
We all know that directly the extra cost of living is finding its way back to the government in taxation either directly in ways like iva or indirectly through taxes on fuel.
IVA may remain at 23% but the 50 cents rise you see on your favourite product in the supermarket now, has directly increased the amount of iva the government collects.
Crocodile tears is all we see shed as tax revenue increases and the standard of living dose not.

And they are illegal charges lineing the pockets of the motorway directors who put on charges on motorways that belong and were built by the EU. And this prime minister promised to get rid of poll if we voted for him, and years later we are still waiting for this liar to keep his promis

Where is the investment from the 6 billion Euros that the government has already received from the EU? Apparently nobody knows. There should be no paid tolls in Portugal - it was all paid for by the Eu decades ago. But back to the question - what has happened to the 6 billion Euros that Portugal has already received? Why can't the government show where the money is being invested?

Pockets lined, objections silenced. Welcome to Portugal.

This toll is illegal (indeed, built with EU subsidies under the promise of free motorways). My car has foreign plates, my address is abroad. I receive letters from Sweden, sent by a British company, urge me to pay the toll on a German account. Really??! Till now I don't pay. The bills keep coming, but eventually the threatening will stop. What can they do? In the end, nothing (I hope). I hope many follow this example.
