On Tuesday, Netflix presented quarterly results and announced price increases in the US, Canada, Argentina and Portugal. It was not immediately clear how much Portuguese customers would pay, but on Wednesday, Netflix's website displayed higher prices than those previously charged for all plans.
While the Base plan cost 7.99 euros, this Wednesday the price was 8.99 euros, an increase of one euro. The Standard plan, which cost 11.99 euros, now costs 12.99 euros, which also represents an increase of one euro per month, according to a report by ECO.
However, customers with the Premium plan, which includes streaming at the highest quality (4K) and allows four devices to be used simultaneously in the same home, saw a higher increase of two euros, going from 15.99 to 17.99 euros per month.
The Portuguese also end up paying more if they want to share the bill with someone who doesn't live under the same roof. If until now Standard and Premium subscribers could add members to their account for an additional 3.99 euros per month, this cost per extra member has now increased to 4.99 euros per month.
According to Netflix, global subscriber numbers grew by 18.9 million in the last quarter of 2024, beating analysts' expectations, to a total of 302 million subscribers.
