Sixteen districts on the mainland and the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores will be under orange and yellow weather warnings until Wednesday due to the forecast of rain and strong sea agitation, according to the IPMA.
On Sunday, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) announced that the Garoe depression that is affecting the Azores and Madeira will also extend to the continent from today, with heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
Only the districts of Bragança and Guarda will escape the warnings.
The forecast has led the IPMA to place the districts of Faro and Beja under an orange warning due to the forecast of rain, sometimes heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms, and occasionally hail, between 09:00 and 15:00 today, changing to yellow until 06:00 on Wednesday.
These two districts will also be under orange warning due to strong sea agitation between 00:00 and 09:00 on Wednesday.
Due to rough seas, Faro and Beja will be under a yellow warning between 3pm today and midnight on Tuesday and then between 9am and 3pm on Wednesday.
The districts of Setúbal, Lisbon and Leiria will also be orange between 00:00 and 09:00 on Wednesday due to the forecast of rough seas.
Also due to the rough seas, the three districts will be under a yellow warning between 15:00 on Tuesday and 00:00 on Wednesday and then between 09:00 and 15:00 on Wednesday.
The IPMA also issued a yellow warning for the districts of Viseu, Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro and Braga due to rain, sometimes heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms, and occasional hail between 3:00 pm today and 6:00 am on Wednesday.
Évora, Setúbal, Santarém, Lisbon and Portalegre are also under yellow warning due to rain until 06:00:00 on Wednesday.
Leiria, Castelo Branco and Coimbra will also be under yellow warning due to rain between 12pm today and 6am on Wednesday.
The IPMA also placed the districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga under yellow warning between midnight and 9 am on Wednesday due to strong sea agitation.
The north and south coasts of Madeira Island and Porto Santo are also under an orange warning between 03:00 and 18:00 on Tuesday, then changing to yellow until 06:00 on Wednesday due to strong sea agitation.
The south coast and mountainous regions of Madeira Island are also under an orange warning until 6pm today, turning yellow between midnight and 9pm on Tuesday due to sometimes heavy rain.
The coast and mountainous regions of Madeira Island and Porto Santo are also under a yellow warning due to strong winds with gusts of up to 100 km/h, increasing to 110 km/h on Tuesday.
The wind warning will be in effect until 3pm on Tuesday.
Azores
The nine islands of the Azores are under orange and yellow warnings due to the effects of depression Garoe.
The islands of the Western group (Flores and Corvo) are under an orange warning due to wind until 5 pm local time (one hour more in Lisbon) today and due to rough seas until 8 pm today.
Flores and Corvo are also under yellow warning due to wind (from 5pm to 9pm today) and rough seas (from 8pm today to 5am on Tuesday).
In the Central group (Terceira, São Jorge, Pico, Graciosa and Faial), the IPMA issued an orange warning due to rough seas (until 5 pm today).
For the islands of Terceira, São Jorge, Pico, Graciosa and Faial, the yellow warning is also in force due to rain until 08:00 today, wind (until 05:00 on Tuesday) and rough seas (between 17:00 today and 5:00 on Tuesday).
For the Eastern group (São Miguel and Santa Maria), an orange warning was issued due to wind and rough seas, which will be in force until 8:00 am today.
São Miguel and Santa Maria are still under yellow warning due to heavy rain (until 11 am today), wind and rough seas (until 11 pm today).
