Rui Patrício, Raphaël Guerreiro, Pepe, Rúben Dias, William
Carvalho, Bernardo Silva, João Mário, Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and
André Silva are the palyers who also represented the country in 2018, when the team
ended up in the round of 16, eliminated by Uruguay.
The Manchester United forward will participate for the fifth
time in a World Cup, after having been in Germany2006, South Africa2010,
Brasil2014 and Russia2018, with him being the captain in the last three.
At the age of 37, Ronaldo is going to the 10th finals of a
major international competition with Portugal, since, in addition to the five
world cups he has also participated in five European championships (2004, 2008,
2012, 2016 and 2020).
The second player with the most caps for the Portuguese
national team is Pepe, FC Porto's centre-back, who has been called up for the
fourth time, after appearances in 2010, 2014 and 2018 (eight games and one
goal).
The oldest among the 26 called up by Fernando Santos, aged
39, and also the second most capped player in this squad (128 matches), just
behind Ronaldo (191), he also has appearances in the European Championships in
2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020.
More than half (16) of the players called up for Qatar will
participate for the first time in a World Cup, with centre António Silva, the
youngest among those chosen (19 years old).
Like the Benfica defender, goalkeepers Diogo Costa and José
Sá, defenders Diogo Dalot, João Cancelo, Danilo Pereira and Nuno Mendes,
midfielders Palhinha, Rúben Neves, Matheus Nunes, Otávio and Vitinha, and
forwards Gonçalo Ramos, João Félix, Rafael Leão and Ricardo Horta are all in
the squad.
The World Cup takes place in Qatar between 20 November and
18 December.
Portugal is in group H, along with Uruguay, Ghana and South
Korea.
