It
is one of three measures announced by Ikea, at a time when inflation has
skyrocketed, but when the company saw sales grow 19.5% over the previous year,
to a total of 552 million euros. “The excellent performance we had was only
possible thanks to the collective effort of everyone, surpassing the
pre-established goals”, says Ricardo Pereira, deputy country manager of Ikea
Portugal.
“At
Ikea, and in line with our values, we want to accompany people at a time of
greater economic difficulty, caused by inflation and the effects of the war on
the European economy. We want our employees to know that there is a support
network to help them if they need it", said Cláudio Valente, People &
Culture Manager at Ikea Portugal.
Great news, right? Why I wasn´t impressed: maybe read “Ikea suppliers accused of using forced labour in Belarusian jails”, by Tristan Fiedler, at Politico.EU news, on 17/11/2022. This is how whitewashing is done. (“Oh, those Scandinavian people are so progressive and better people than everybody else…!”)
