"In some places, there will be very long queues and we
have to communicate that to consumers", warned Charlotte Vere, assuring
that the British government is in negotiations to guarantee that the country's
ports and airports will be operating during Christmas.
According to the British publication Travel Weekly, the
United Kingdom expects several strikes for this festival season, namely by
border guards, as well as the union that represents British civil servants, the
PCS – Public and Commercial Services Union.
Both the British border guards and civil servants are
demanding 10% salary increases and have announced a strike, although without a
defined date, indicating only that the strike may take place on Christmas or
New Year's Eve, together with a strike from railway workers.
“No day for strikes has been declared so far and the
government has mitigation measures in place”, added the British minister,
during the Abta Travel Matters conference.
