The consignment notice was signed by the director of Vinci for Portugal and Brazil, Thierry Ligonnière, by the president of ANA Aeroportos, José Luís Arnaut, and by the president of Mota-Engil, Carlos Mota dos Santos, reflecting an investment worth 233 million euros and which foresees the construction of 10 boarding points, the reformulation of the entire southern building, with the work being carried out by a consortium led by Mota-Engil.
In a statement before the signing of the agreement, José Luís Arnaut said that this is an “important moment” and that, with the works, Humberto Delgado Airport “will have a significant upgrade”.
Thierry Ligonnière pointed out that this is “the biggest project that ANA has carried out, in terms of value, since the construction of the Francisco Sá Carneiro airport”.
In addition to the contract for these works, a military use protocol was signed with the Chief of the Air Force General Staff, João Cartaxo Alves.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, spoke about the signing of “an absolutely essential document with the Air Force”.
“If there were any doubts about the Air Force's desire to be by our side, they were completely dispelled, and that's why we are here today, but we are also taking subsequent steps, namely, together, we are thinking about the new Firing Range of Air Force, absolutely essential to fulfil our commitments to NATO, our national defense commitments”, said Miguel Pinto Luz.
Miguel Pinto Luz also said that he expects, on December 17th, the delivery of Vinci's first report on these works, which will make clear “Vinci's commitments, schedules, ambition and vision for the new airport infrastructure”.
Regarding the works, the governor pointed out that they are “essential”, because “whoever uses this airport knows that it has been overcrowded for many years”.
Why spend that money expanding the current Lisbon airport if "the new one" is just coming?
How about putting that money into building a bit faster this new airport?
