Law 154/2022 of the Ministries of Economy and Sea and
Health, published on June 2, comes into force on the first day of next year.
“In catering or drinking establishments, including those
with rooms or spaces intended for dancing, places where smoking is allowed in
areas intended for customers may be set up, provided that these establishments
have an area for customers equal to or greater than 100 m2 and a minimum
ceiling height of 3m”, it reads.
The ordinance also dictates rules regarding spaces intended
for smokers, which "can be constituted up to a maximum of 20% of the area
intended for customers".
These spaces must have a sign and have information posted on
the door about the maximum capacity allowed with “no entry for persons under 18
years of age”.
I thought these rules had been approved a couple of years ago? Have no idea if they were enforced because while out, I usually smoke outdoors, anyway (?).

Smoking should be banned in all indoor spaces. Standing or dancing in a packed bar or nightclub where people are smoking right next to you is harmful to your health and disruptive to your enjoyment of the evening. The size of the room matters little when there's no escaping the smokers.

Thank YOU Guida for always smoking outside. Nicotine is an addiction like alcohol misused and drugs although my experience is not with Marijuana as a former smoker and alcaholic many years ago. Now I am Asthmatic from second hand smoke and I visit Portugal several times a year. It amazes me that people can smoke inside in restaurants or anywhere inside. The US bans all indoor smoking as is only "fair and respectful" to others; it just ruins a meal and on the dance floor, really! People waving a cigarette can burn your eye and what will they say "Oh sorry!" Portugal is so progressive in so many other ways. Second hand smoke causes Emphysema AND cancer; use your head Portugal.

By the way, tourists returning from Portugal always say great things about their visits EXCEPT that "they" (Portuguese) smoke everywhere like Amsterdam and they hate that!

I totally agree Peter, I'm a Waiter and I'm forced to support smokers everyday.

Smoking should be banned in all public spaces as it is already in Brazil. In Portugal is no escaping of smoking anywhere.

Seems we have a lot of Karen’s here, hi Peter & Wes, if you don’t like it here, then please stay in the US! People don’t seem to understand that this is just the start, of banning everything, alcohol is next and after that all freedom will be gone and Europe will become like China, New Zealand and poor Down Under!

I thought smoking indoors were banned all over Europe
