The crew of the Peniche Lifeguard Station received the alert around 1:50 pm, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisboa), noting that "two kite surfers [were] in difficulty on the beach do Baleal", says the National Maritime Authority, in a statement.
Thus, "elements of the Captaincy of the Port of Peniche, the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Peniche and the Lifeguard Station of Peniche were activated to the location", adds the entity.
"On arrival at the site it was found that one of the kite surfers had managed to get out of the water by his own means, with the crew of the Lifesaving Station having rescued a second kite surfer, aged around 50, of Dutch nationality, using a maritime rescue motorcycle", details AMN.
Because they were in good physical shape, it was not necessary to provide medical assistance to the kite surfers, who left the scene by their own means.
People were warned not to go bathe or do anything at sea, because of bad weather and also our rescuers and their resources can´t save every nut job that braves the sea in this weather. But for rich foreigners´ hobbies, I guess we do have to have resources? Plus, individual is not admonished for not following rules given to the whole population?
