Reacting to the news released by aeroroutes.com and the Air Serbia website about the company's new flights between Belgrade and Lisbon scheduled to start on April 15, SkyExpert, a consultancy company specializing in air transport, airports and tourism, highlights that Lisbon began “to show up in the Belgrade airport statistics: it is one of the European destinations with the most expressive traffic numbers, but without direct flights”.

Using data from OAG Analytics that measure the number of passengers between two cities regardless of the stopover point as long as they have a single ticket with origin in Belgrade and destination Lisbon, there were 17 thousand in 2019 (the last pre-pandemic year). For Porto there were just over six thousand. In the case of the Portuguese capital, this is a higher number than for cities such as Manchester, Cologne or Dublin. After a very brief incursion by TAP on this route in 2014 with three weekly flights, almost 10 years later there will be two companies and a total of four weekly flights operating the route according to Publituris.

Wizzair put its two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays for sale in December, with the first flight scheduled for August 1.

The flights announced now by Air Serbia starting in two months will also be operated on Tuesdays and Saturdays, at a time similar to that of the direct competition.
