Temperatures will increase considerably from this Monday, after warnings from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) and, in the Alentejo and Algarve, temperatures are expected to reach 40 degrees Celsius, even surpassing that in counties like Mértola or Castro Verde.

On its website, the IPMA issued a yellow alert for the district of Faro, warning of the "persistence of high values of maximum temperature".

The municipalities where the highest temperatures will be recorded are expected to be Alcoutim and Portimão, where the IPMA predicts 40 degrees and 38 degrees, respectively. Other municipalities, such as Albufeira, Castro Marim, Faro, Loulé, Monchique, Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António, are expected to register temperatures of around 35 degrees.

If you intend to go to the beach, very strong sunscreen is recommended, as several beaches on the Algarve coast should register a maximum temperature of over 35 degrees. For Praia da Rocha and Praia do Carvoeiro, for example, 37 degrees are expected.

In the Alentejo, in particular in the district of Beja, the institute did not issue any alert, but the region should register the highest temperatures in the country.

Almost all municipalities will see their thermometers exceed 35 degrees, while the municipalities of Moura, Serpa and Vidigueira will reach 40 degrees. The hottest regions in the country are likely to be Barrancos and Castro Verde, where the expected maximum temperature is 41 degrees.
