The Azorean executives justified the “adjustment to the maximum retail price” of the fuels with “the recent variations on the international market of reference quotas in fossil fuel and energy products.”

The price of petrol in the Azores, which hadn’t suffered changes in the months of June and July, is fixed at 1.535€ a litre, while in August 1.2 cents will be added to the previous month’s cost.

As per diesel, after having dropped 8.5 cents in July, it’s risen by 2.9 cents in the month of August, now costing €1.354/L.

The price of dyed diesel for agriculture and fishing, defined in another dispatch, has also risen by 2.9 cents. Dyed diesel marked for consumption in agriculture now costs €0.983/l, while the dyed diesel marked for fishing use is fixed at €0.793/L.

The fuel oil with a sulphur composition at or below 1%, when destined for other consumption, provided in bulk at each island’s distribution companies’ installations, rose 0.9 cents to 0.603 euros per kilogram.

The fuel oil for electricity production, provided in bulk to each island’s distribution companies’ infrastructure, meanwhile, has recorded a rise from 600.49 to 609.44 euros/TM on the island of São Miguel, while it rose from 629.43 to 638.38 euros/TM on Terceira.

In Pico, it rose from €710.26/TM to €722.01/TM and in Faial, from €696.16/TM to €707.91/TM.

The price of butane gas sold in canisters, piped or in bulk, hasn’t suffered changes, ranging between €1.348/kg (in bulk) to €1.618/kg (24L canister, built with light materials, sold to public in place of consumption).

The maximum price of oil and energy products in the Azores will “be altered on the 1st of each month in the amounts in line with the variations in the monthly value of Preço Europa (PE).

In March, the Azorean government increased the Tax rate on Oil and Energy Products (ISP) by 10 cents, justifying the decision with “the tendency for fuel prices to normalise on the global market to values similar to those before the geopolitical crisis provoked by the war in Ukraine.”

45.6 cents are covered in the ISP per litre of petrol, 24.2 cents in the case of diesel.

The ISP in the Azores had lowered in August of 2022 by 9 cents for petrol and 11.3 cents for diesel.

The Azorean government had already lowered the ISP by 4 cents in petrol and 2 cents in diesel in November 2021, and by 11 cents in both fuels in April 2022.
