Convened by the Union of Road and Urban Transport Workers of Portugal/Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (STRUP/Fectrans), the strike also covers overtime work until the 8th of August.
Paulo Afonso, the regional coordinator for the Algarve at STRUP/Fectrans, told Lusa that the protest by workers at the two companies operating in the Algarve “is linked to the company’s lack of response to the claims presented at the beginning of the month”.
According to the union leader, what is at stake is an extraordinary increase of 100 euros in the base salary of all workers and “the payment of the holiday subsidy in accordance with the law”.
"We intend that vacations and vacation subsidy be paid, just as the law says, which is with the average salary earned in the previous year", he pointed out.
Paulo Afonso regretted that the company “did not respond” to the claim booklet delivered by the unions, “despite the various attempts made” by the workers' representatives.
He added that the strike is expected to "significantly affect road passenger transport to and from the Algarve, as well as mobility in the region".
