Inflation continued to slow down in July, but many of the products associated with the summer holidays registered a price increase, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics. This is the case of international flights, whose monthly variation was 11.36%, as well as package holidays abroad, which rose by more than 13%.
According to a report by ECO, from June to July, the consumer price index recorded a monthly rate of change of -0.4%. It is possible to see which are the components that most contributed to this result and several of the products are associated with holidays.
The list includes international flights, whose prices rose 11.36% compared to the previous month.
Package holidays outside Portugal, according to INE data, increased by 13.24% compared to the previous month. But even those who choose to stay in Portugal can see that restaurants, cafes and similar establishments had an increase of 0.84%.
However, those who chose to go shopping to pack for the holidays may have had a good surprise. The prices of clothing and footwear fell, falling between 12% and 22% for women's, men's and children's clothing, "as a result of the beginning of the period of end-of-collection discounts", notes INE.
For those who like to read on the beach, the prices of newspapers, books and stationery decreased slightly in July (0.11%). Games, toys and items for recreation and leisure activities also became cheaper, with prices falling 1.4%.
