“The measure has worked and while the measure is expected to end next October, the Council of Ministers will approve instead the extension of the zero VAT reduction until December 31st, so that we can continue to control the price of goods fundamental foods for Portuguese families”, António Costa announced.
The drop from 6% to 0% for a set of 46 food products considered to be essential came into force in April.
This is definitely very good news for many. However, I wonder whether Portugal can afford this tax reduction, which applies to everybody (also those that don't really need this support).
