Among the largest municipalities, Lisbon will return 4.5% of the IRS to residents, Porto 1.5%, Gaia 2.5%, Loures 0.25% and Braga 2%.
42 local authorities reduced the portion of the IRS to which they would be entitled, reverting it to their citizens, while six increased it, reserving more for municipal coffers. These are numbers that appear on the Finance Portal and result from the values communicated to the Tax Authorities by public entities until December 31st of last year, but there are eight councils with no data available.
The municipalities' options will have an impact on the final IRS bill that will be paid in 2024, which could result in a reduction in the tax to be paid to the State or an increase in the refund.
You can consult the data for your municipality in the table provided on the Finance Portal.
