The study, which uses criteria such as economic and business performance, tourism performance, tourist infrastructure, tourism policy and attractiveness, health and safety, and sustainability, is dominated by European destinations, although Asia is also heavily represented, according to a report by Publituris.
“Paris maintained its title as the world's leading urban destination, followed by Dubai in second place and Madrid in third. Tokyo came in fourth place, while Amsterdam rounds out the top five,” reads the statement released by Euromonitor International.
Despite European dominance in the Top10, the destinations that appear next are mostly from Asia, such as Singapore, which appears in 11th place, but also Seoul, in South Korea, which ranked 14th; Osaka, Japan, which ranked 16th; and Hong Kong, China, which was the 16th destination in this ranking.
The Portuguese capital closes the list that makes up the Top20, ranking just after Vienna, in Austria, and Los Angeles, in the USA, which occupy, respectively, the 18th and 19th places in this ranking.
“Paris maintained the title of leading city in the world after an exceptional performance in the pillars of Tourist Policy and Attractiveness, Tourist Infrastructure and Tourist Performance”, says Nadejda Popova, from Euromonitor International.
