Topping the list of countries in Europe most obsessed with Christmas is the Netherlands, closely followed by the United Kingdom and Denmark. Portugal is also in the top 10 of the ranking, occupying 9th position, according to a study by Holidu, and reported by idealista.

The Holidu survey looked at searches carried out on Google throughout the year, which were analysed, considering keywords related to Christmas, such as "Christmas", "Christmas Trees", "Christmas Carols", "Christmas Markets" and "Nativity scene".

These are the five countries most obsessed with Christmas (total search volume/population = total ratio):

- Netherlands – 183,100 searches and Christmas obsession score out of 100;

- UK – 691,400 searches/Christmas obsession score 99.10;

- Denmark – 60,380 searches/Christmas obsession score 97.33;

- Norway – 55,400 searches/Christmas obsession score 96.18;

- Ireland – 49,590 searches/Christmas obsession score of 90.20;

Portugal appears in 9th place on the list – behind Finland (6th), Belgium (7th) and Switzerland (8th), with 79,300 searches and a Christmas obsession score of 72.78.

“All it takes is a simple walk through Chiado or Avenida dos Aliados and we realise how much we love Christmas and all its magic! The decorated houses, the nativity scenes and the midnight mass contribute to the cultural richness of the celebration, making it a moment of conviviality and sharing of traditions”, says Holidu in a statement.
