Until the end of the year, the Chamber of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, in the Guarda region, will commemorate the 50 anniversary of 25 April by launching several commemorative programmes. Aimed at the whole population, the festivities intend "to mark in a memorable way the day on which it opened doors to a set of profound democratic, political, social, cultural, and economic changes which marked the life of the people and the country”, the municipality has stated.

The commemorative programme kicked off on 24 April at 6 pm with the opening of an exhibition in the Municipal Swimming Pools building about the revolution. The exhibition features artwork created by students from the Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo School Group and residents of the municipality's Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS). Moreover, on the same day, at 9.30 pm, Mário Mata and Zeca's friends performed in the Sports Pavilion Auditorium.

On the morning of the 25 April, there was a session honouring the 50 anniversary of the revolution, where Mário José Pimentel Saraiva Salvado, a resident of Figueirense, received a posthumous award of the Medal of Honour of the Municipality. Mário Pimentel served as a deputy in the Constituent Assembly and was chosen as an honorary deputy by the Assembly of the Republic after he was elected in the first free elections in 1975.

During the morning a wreath was laid at the village monument as a memorial to the former Ultramar combatants. Among other activities which took place during the day, at 9.30pm the Filandorra played “Contar e Cantar Abril” at Casa da Cultura.
The Chamber has ensured that the municipality will host events in connection with the 50-anniversary festivities throughout the year.
