In a joint statement, the Public Security Police (PSP), the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), and the National Republican Guard (GNR) reveal that they inspected 50.3 thousand vehicles, between May 7th and 13th, and detected 22.6 thousand infractions.
ANSR inspected around 4.4 million vehicles, with around 12 thousand infractions recorded, but none relating to the misuse of a mobile phone.
The GNR inspected around 124 thousand vehicles and recorded 6,211 infractions, including 535 relating to the use of cell phones.
The PSP inspected 47,196 vehicles across the country and detected 178 drivers using their cell phones inappropriately while driving.
Throughout the ANSR, GNR, and PSP campaigns, around 2,732 accidents were recorded, resulting in 10 fatalities, 57 serious injuries, and 886 minor injuries.
Accidents with fatalities occurred in the districts of Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Lisbon, Setúbal, Évora and Beja.
According to PSP data, in the same period of 2023, there were 22 fewer accidents and four more fatalities, 11 more serious injuries, and eight fewer minor injuries.
According to the PSP statement, this campaign was the fifth of the 12 foreseen in the 2024 PSP National Inspection Plan, which has as priority themes speed, alcohol, safety accessories, and mobile phones, and a new theme related to the inspection of two-wheeled motor vehicles.
